David E. Shapter, D.D.S.

Dr. David Shapter is a Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. He is a native of Erie and has a Bachelor of Science from the Pennsylvania State University. He went on to continue his education at the Ohio State University receiving a Masters Degree in Pathology before attending the College of Dentistry. He served in the US Army Dental Corps for 5 years, where he completed the Residency in General Practice. In 1983, he returned to Ohio State and Columbus Children’s Hospital and completed his Residency in Pediatric Dentistry in 1985.

Dr. Shapter established Pediatric Dentistry of Erie in 1985 and recently moved his office to the newly renovated Standard Square Building, located a 128 West 12th Street in downtown Erie. He and his wife Bev are very proud of their four sons,( three of which have received the Eagle Scout Award). They are both very committed to community service and are actively involved with several organizations including their church, the Boy Scouts of America, the Grottoes of North America, and the Erie County Dental Association.

Our Office Team is headed up by our Office Manager, Phyllis. She is the one who keeps us all functioning at maximum efficiency. She is also in charge of patient relations and will answer most questions if you need her expertise.

Our Front Desk Team includes:

Jessica, who is our primary scheduling assistant and keeps very busy getting patients the right appointment. She will often answer your phone calls and relay any messages to the rest of the office.

Kim, who is our primary receptionist. She is usually the first to greet you and your child and will check you in for your appointment.

Carrie, who is our primary financial assistant. She files your insurance claims and is in charge of keeping accurate accounts for everyone.

Our Clinical Team includes two excellent Pediatric Dental Hygienists:

Dori has been with Dr. Shapter for quite a few years and the experience shows. She will make your child’s visit comfortable and interesting.

Lisa has a special talent with the apprehensive child or the child with special health care needs.

Our Clinical Team also includes two outstanding Pediatric Chairside Dental Assistants:

Kelley has the longest tenure with Dr. Shapter and again the experience shows. She will take your child through the dental experience and make it look easy. She is really fun!

David exemplifies what our caring staff is all about. He always helps make your child’s visit a pleasant experience.

Our “new” office is designed to highlight some of what makes Erie special. Our “Nautical” theme features sea shore and coast line scenes that will make you feel you are out on Presque Isle. There are shore birds, fish and underwater friends featured in many of the rooms and hallways. There is even a Lighthouse in the office. We hope you will enjoy the environment, we have all worked hard to make it a nice place to visit!
